Christmas and New Year Greetings
Christmas and New Year's Greetings

Our 2024 theme LFU@25: Serve, Invest, Build, Transform reminds us of our longevity but also the ways in which the organization strives to make an impact in the local community. We are grateful to our members and all our stakeholders for their steadfast support, and we approach a new year with hope and greater focus on improving the lives of those we serve!

LFU Guyana Inc. Presented with $600,000 GYD Grant Award

On December 18, LFU Guyana Inc. was presented with a $600,000 GYD project grant, a collaborative initiative between 25 Influential Women Leaders (IWL) and SBM Offshore Guyana, aimed at recognizing and fostering meaningful and sustainable development in the region. We’re grateful to Teacher Camille Cummings (far right in photo), who was the inaugural recipient of the 25 IWL & SBM Women of Excellence Award earlier this year and recommended LFU Guyana Inc. for the grant attached to her pioneering win. Also at the check presentation at the LFU Guyana Inc. office building were Vice Chair Keith Semple, 25 IWL’s Michelle Nicholas, Sagacity’s CEO Christopher Chapwanya, SBM Offshore’s Uma Madray, and others. We thank 25 IWL and SBM for their confidence in LFU to apply the grant towards furthering our impactful programs for youth and the elderly in Linden and Region 10.

Holiday Enrichment & Fellowship for LFU Scholarship Students

NICIL Watooka Complex was once again the scene of a festive end-of-year celebration of our scholarship students, from primary to tertiary levels. Once again, our deepest thanks to our donors Terry Bovell and Claire Walters for strongly supporting our efforts to enrich the academic experiences of our almost 50 scholars with meaningful social engagement and enriching experiences. The goal is to prepare our scholars to be more rounded individuals who are better prepared for post-high school and college life.

Welcome Mrs. Leticia Allicock as New Office Manager for LFU Guyana Inc.

LFU Guyana Inc. starts 2025 with new management personnel overseeing our operations and building in Linden. Mrs. Leticia Allicock, in many ways, is returning to the LFU fold having served in a similar capacity in the earlier years of the organization. Her dedication to the mission of LFU will enable a smooth transition, and she is eager to bring her experience and enthusiasm to our ongoing projects and working along with our stakeholders in Linden and Region 10 to develop even more impactful programs. Help us give a warm welcome to Leticia!

Author Focus: Dr. Carmen Barclay Subrya

Congratulations to our own Carmen Barclay Subryan on the publication of her most recent book, Legacy. A Woman’s Journey To Healing, a 400+ page memoir chronicling her life in British Guiana and her journey to the US. Carmen, who is a prolific author, grew up beside the beautiful Demerara River at Retrieve, Mackenzie, where the roots of her mother’s ancestors, the Allicocks, run deep into the history of the region. You too can “experience important historical and contemporary events through the author’s eyes.” Read more here.
